A podenco and her 8 puppies were rescued this Monday in the municipality of Teguise. The puppies, barely a month old, and their mother, were discovered by the caretaker of the Teguise Animal Shelter in a cave near the Agroindustrial Complex. An excavator was needed to free the mother, in an operation that lasted more than 4 hours. Huella a Huella has indicated that 5 of the animals have already been taken in, while another 4 puppies and the mother still "need a way out".
The caretaker of the Teguise Center warned the shelter around 10 o'clock that he had seen a podenco "wandering" around the area. When he chased her, he discovered the cave "full of puppies" and did "everything in his power to rescue them." This caretaker, named Samuel, did not hesitate to enter the cave and, one by one, managed to get all the little ones out, a total of 4 males and 4 females with just a few weeks of life.
The mother, however, had fled, explain from the association, which has spread the images and the story of this rescue through social networks. The podenco dog ended up appearing hours later, she had returned to the cave. Next to her were two girls, who, according to Huella a Huella, had been feeding the puppies and who, when they saw that the mother had returned, tried to "prevent" her from leaving, "in order to rescue her."
"The poor thing is very scared, she tries by all means to prevent them from getting her out of the cave, although at no time does she show even a hint of aggressiveness, but the depth of the place makes access very difficult," this association has said. Given these complications, the councilor of the Animal Protection Area of Teguise requested the presence of a machine, to "be able to remove the stones from above and act without danger, neither for the people nor for the dog."

"Finally, after more than 4 hours of rescue, they succeeded," Huella a Huella has indicated, noting that they are "speechless" at this action. "It is a truly unique event that has never happened on this island, once again, unity is strength," the protector has congratulated.
Huella a Huella has praised the "tenacity, awareness and involvement of this City Council and especially of the Center's caretaker, Samuel, who did not hesitate to do everything necessary, spend hours until saving them, and even, in between all that, go to another call for a dog found."
