The posthumous work of the film director from Lanzarote, Roberto Pérez Toledo, who passed away on January 31st, will premiere at the Malaga Film Festival, where it will compete in ZonaZine. Before that event, the film can be seen in a press screening in Madrid next Tuesday.
"Places We've Never Been" tells five parallel stories, with characters facing themselves and unfulfilled dreams: a woman who orders food at home and finds that the delivery man is her great love, whom she has not seen for years; a casting director who tests an actor to whom he is united by much more than work; a woman about to be unfaithful to her husband with a co-worker; a couple who inaugurate the apartment with which they have just mortgaged themselves for 30 years; and two strangers who meet at a party that promises hugs.
The cast of protagonists is headed by Belén Fabra and Francesc Corbera, accompanied by Pepe Ocio, Verónika Moral, Emilio Buale, Ana Risueño, Sergio Torrico, Miguel Diosdado, Laura Rozalén and Andrés Picazo.
In addition to directing the film, Roberto Pérez Toledo was also the screenwriter, although he could not see its premiere. At the end of January he suffered a stroke and six days later he ended up dying, at the age of 43.
On the same day of his death, he was scheduled to participate in a meeting at the Film Academy, which included the exhibition of his short films 'Vuelco', 'Los gritones', 'RotosS', 'Sí a todo', 'Tris', 'Admirador secreto', 'Taras', 'Amor de autor', 'Siempre que lo cuento', 'Hidroalcohólico' and 'Antes de la erupción'. The latter was recorded in Lanzarote, and toured festivals around the world, also winning the award for Best International LGTBI Short Film at the Alicante International Film Festival.
He had also just premiered his first play, 'Basic sign language manual to break hearts', at the María Guerrero Theater in Madrid.
As for feature films, Toledo premiered 'Seis puntos sobre Emma' in 2012, being the first as director and screenwriter, with which he won several awards. In 2013 he participated in the collective feature film 'Al final todos mueren', and the following year he released the tv-movie 'Los Raros amigos', which has more than 22 million views on the internet. His third solo film was 'Como la espuma', released in 2017, and the last 'Lugares a los que nunca hemos ido', which is the one that will now premiere at the Malaga Film Festival.
