Under the name 'The British Descent', the Lanzarote Ensemble orchestra offered a magnificent concert on Friday night at the Victor Fernández Gopar Theater "El Salinero".
Directed by Professor Ayoze Rodríguez, the performance began with the work "Summer Music, for wind quintet, Op.31" by Samuel Barber. A piece that was commissioned by the Detroit Chamber Music Society, being Samuel Barber's only work for wind quintet. A
Next, the chords of "Concert for piano and nine instruments" by Constant Lambert were heard, a composer who was born in London in 1905 and who died in the same city in 1951. Son of Russian and Australian parents, he had a very active, although brief, life. Lambert was also involved in the world of ballet and conducting, where he also stood out, directing around 50 recordings for the BBC until his death.
The concert ended with the premiere of Leandro Ariel Martín Quintero's composition "Four Sound Images of César Manrique", four movements based on four artistic works by Manrique himself: Mirador del Río, Jameos del Agua, Timanfaya and Jardín de Cactus. As brushstrokes, the composition describes with sounds the visual sensations they provoke and immerse the listener in unique atmospheres.
The attending public enjoyed the program chosen by the direction of Lanzarote Ensemble, rewarding its members with their applause.
