The workers of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo of Lanzarote continue to keep in mind the figure of their creator, César Manrique. Thus, as is tradition, a group of representatives of the staff met this Wednesday in the Haría cemetery to remember the artist, who sadly disappeared on a day like today 27 years ago.

The event was attended by the vice president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jacobo Medina; the CEO of the Centers, Juan Félix Eugenio; the mayors of the municipalities of Haría and San Bartolomé, Alfredo Villalba and Alexis Tejera, respectively, as well as other councilors of the first island institution, family, friends and followers of the artist.

Students from sixth grade of Primary from CEIP San Juan de Haría were the ones who opened the event by performing a polka written by them dedicated to Manrique. They were accompanied by four players from the Malpaís de la Corona Group.

Next, Marisol Álvarez, representative of the non-profit association 'Sculpture to César Manrique', took the floor making a semblance of the artist, recalling "his joy, his optimism and the sparkle in his eyes." Álvarez, who took the opportunity to announce that the work 'La mirada de César', by Manolo González, "will be inaugurated on April 24, 2020", recalled some anecdotes lived with the artist and encouraged those who lived with him to transmit their experiences to young people to avoid oblivion. "May César Manrique always live in Lanzarote and in our hearts," she concluded.

After the vice president and the Minister of Industry of the First Institution deposited the floral offering on Manrique's tomb, the Corujo brothers, Pancho and Ciro, put a brilliant end to the event by performing an isa del 1, a folía and Mazurka.

At the conclusion of the event, Jacobo Medina thanked the workers of the Centers "for their daily work and effort to preserve the legacy of César Manrique, one of the most extraordinary and transcendental figures in the history of this archipelago and, above all, of this island."

In the year of the centenary of the artist's birth, the vice president of the Cabildo encouraged "to value his message and to carry out an exercise of deep individual and collective reflection that serves to analyze the point at which we find ourselves and the destination we want as an island and as a society."
