The cultural groups of Lanzarote are using the last days of 2022 to participate in the "Isleña Christmas" program. On Thursday afternoon, the choristers of the Arrecife Polyphonic Choir moved to the church of San Roque, in Tinajo, to bring their songs that mark a tradition. Among its repertoire, there are even some without a specific religious context also called Christmas carols. Each song has a rich history, some of which date back many centuries.
The choristers, the fact of singing in a church, value it very positively for the acoustics, a very important element that allows them to sing without having to use sound equipment, ensuring that each and every one of the voices are heard with the same level.
The Arrecife Polyphonic Choir was directed by Hernán Lorenzo, professor and director of the group, and had the collaboration of professor Pepe Artiles, who was in charge of providing the musical note with the piano. For this concert he chose the following compositions: "Dona Nobis", "Pacem", by Mozart, "Oh light of God", "La capa de San José", by José Macías, "Esta noche es Noche Buena", by Rogelio San Luis Ramos, "Adeste Fideles", by John Francis Wade and "Silent Night", written by the Austrian priest, Joseph Mohr, which was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2011 and has been recorded by multiple singers and in various musical genres.
The director Hernán Lorenzo and the choristers participating in the concert received as a prize the applause of the public that gathered in the church of San Roque.
