Last Thursday, the town of Femés experienced the Grand Day of its festivities in honor of San Marcial del Rubicón, patron saint of Lanzarote, amidst religion, music, and much tradition.

The historic day began at 6:00 PM next to the town's Parish House, with the protocolary welcome by municipal authorities, led by the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda. Also in attendance were the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, as well as ecclesiastical, civil, and military figures.

An event where the apostolic nuncio of His Holiness, the Pope's representative in Spain, Bernardito Cleopas Auza, and the mayor signed the Books of Honor of the Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios Parish and the Yaiza City Council, recording their first visit to the island.

He expressed his great joy and gratitude for the welcome, noting how much he had liked Lanzarote, highlighting the affection of its people, the folklore, and also its gastronomy.

An hour later, at 7:00 PM, in accordance with the program, the Holy Mass began, which this year took place in the tent installed in the Femés square, in order to accommodate all the numerous parishioners who came to honor San Marcial del Rubicón.

The Eucharist was presided over by the apostolic nuncio and was attended by the Bishop of the Diocese of the Canary Islands, Monsignor José Mazuelo Pérez, the Auxiliary Bishop Cristóbal Déniz, and the parish priests, Juan Carlos Medina-San Ginés, Jonathan Almeida of Yaiza, Juan Carlos Arencibia Rector of the Seminary, Francisco García of Tinajo and San Bartolomé, Manuel Arencibia, Santa María de la Vega, San José Obrero and San Francisco Javier, Nicanor Bermúdez- Altavista and Valterra, Antonio Fernández Parrilla, and two Seminarians from the different municipalities of Lanzarote. In addition, it should be noted that this act was enlivened with the songs of the Holy Mass, Carmen Dolores and Juana Bello.

After the Eucharist, the procession began, led by the Yaiza Music Band, followed by the image of San Marcial del Rubicón, surrounded by the apostolic nuncio, the bishops, priests, civil and military authorities, and the hundreds of parishioners.

All of them accompanied the patron saint during the route, longer than usual, to his hermitage, where the members of the Rubicón Folk Group were waiting to make their offering with traditional songs and dances such as seguidillas, folias, isas, and malagueñas, which were greatly applauded by all those present.

Before concluding the act, Mayor Óscar Noda presented a ceramic made by the artisan Agustín Alemán, Adopted Son of Yaiza, to Bernardito Cleopas Auza, who was very grateful for the gift.

Minutes later, the image of San Marcial del Rubicón crossed the portico of his hermitage amidst cheers and applause, bringing an end to a historic act for the history of Femés, Lanzarote, and the Canary Islands.

After the religious events, the concert by the well-known group Café Quijano put the final finishing touch to the festivities of the town of Femés, with songs full of rhythm.
