Cuban percussionist musician Carlos Almaguer presented his book "In the Shadow of the Stick in Cuba", 381 pages where the author tells the harsh reality of the reprisal to which the Cuban people are subjected. A publication with which Almaguer runs the risk of not stepping on the land that saw him born again, the city of Holguín.
The event took place this Wednesday and was presented at the Municipal Theater of Teguise by the Councilor for Heritage and Library of the City Council, Sara Bermúdez, who gave a brief biography of Carlos Almaguer. Next, the young singer Verónica Lucía performed the songs 'Salinera de Janubio', 'Una Palabra' and 'Amar y Vivir', accompanied on the piano by the professor, Antonio Pirissi.
After that, the author of the book, Carlos Almaguer, took the stage, who before beginning to unfold the content of part of his work presented the authority of his cover, Nela Hernández Callero, who, following the writer's instructions, captured the narrative of the book in great detail.
Almaguer, with much suspicion and without revealing the content of his book, shared with those present part of the episodes that the reader will discover as he progresses in the reading. In them he explains very well the harsh reality suffered by Cuban society, which has generally renounced its moral principles in order to bring a plate of food to the table, clinging to the world of Santeria and Palo Monte, as a reflection of the desperation of a country adrift that is sinking into corruption, disillusionment and distrust in socialism and its elderly leaders. A country where in the 21st century there continues to be discrimination against women and homosexuals, where freedom of expression is completely null and the Castro dynasty has a very great power, both political and economic, and does not want there to be a change.
