The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Court has sentenced a woman to pay 11,400 euros for making slanderous and serious insults through social networks or with posters to the mother of her two granddaughters, who are minors, whom she said was an alcoholic, drug addict and had abandoned the girls.

The now convicted woman once asked the Arona Courts to withdraw parental authority for accusing her daughter-in-law of failing to fulfill her obligations, of injuries or mistreatment, to the point of ensuring that one of the minors had lost "many kilos".

She indicated that the defendant had "an important problem" with alcohol and left the girls alone at home and went to drink, and that when she returned she did so "in unfavorable conditions" for the daughters or left them in the care of her current partner.

She added that neither she nor her current partner have a stable job or assets, "which does not correspond to their standard of living", in addition to stating that both are regular cocaine users.

Other complaints pointed out that the couple "habitually drove under the influence of alcohol with the minors inside" and that they had sex in front of them; that the defendant suffers from a mental disorder, that the girls were not taken to the health center and that their hygiene is deficient.

She also added that when they went to visit her they appeared with lice, that they have totally neglected skin and hands and the diet is inadequate because "they always eat pasta".

Once the complaint was filed, investigations were carried out that concluded with rejecting the request to remove the mother's custody and custody and it was agreed to dismiss the case, given that the facts were not proven.

For this, reports were collected from Social Services and forensic doctors who not only discredited the statements made but also warned that they could be constitutive of a crime given their falsehood.

Despite this, the grandmother continued to launch these complaints on various social networks and near the Arona Courts and the girls' school, where she showed large posters that said: "No to child abuse. In a decent country, criminals don't win"; or "Urgent, these grandparents ask for help and justice for their granddaughters".

Also on social networks she accused her daughter-in-law of being an "abuser", which she found out through her eight-year-old daughter after seeing the video while the defendant continued making these statements among the parents of the school.

The grandmother asked for tests to be done to prove that the mother was a drug addict and alcoholic and launched falsehoods such as that a judge recognized the existence of violence, that the couple was in bars all day or that she forgot to give the girls medicine.

For all this, the abused woman filed the complaint and finally a Criminal Court first, and then the Court, sentenced the grandmother with two fines and compensation for the aforementioned amount, believing that she was aware of the accusations and falsehoods made since 2016.

The convicted woman maintained that it had been her granddaughters who had told her what she later denounced and that they were the ones who motivated her to make it known, despite the judicial resolutions and reports that went in the opposite direction.

The Court believes that the sentence is not only adequate but that even the civil liability of 6,000 euros is described as "moderate", given the "seriousness of the accusations and offensive expressions, their reiteration, dissemination and other circumstances".
