In the month of April there were 183 tourist accommodations open, two more than last March, but the number of employees in the sector decreased, according to the ISTAC Tourist Accommodation Survey, collected by the Lanzarote Data Center.
Specifically, in the hotels and apartments on the island, 9,240 workers were registered in April, 172 less than the previous month, despite coinciding with the Easter period, which reached an occupancy of more than 77%.
However, the figures improve considerably compared to the same month of 2021, when there were only 2,293 employees.
It should be noted that hotels occupy the majority of workers, with 7,530 employees compared to the 1,710 people who work in apartments in Lanzarote. In addition, of the establishments open last month, 72 were hotels and 111 were non-hotel establishments.
Average stay decreases and places offered and overnight stays by tourists increase
Meanwhile, the tourists who came to the island in April, decided to stay fewer nights than in March, going from an average stay of 7.37 nights last month to 7.12, but it increases almost two points compared to 2021, when they stayed 5.47 nights, 30% less.
However, in the fourth month of the year more travelers stayed, specifically 237,703 travelers compared to 224,149 in March. Overnight stays also increased, with 1,415,087, that is, almost 39,000 more in just one month.
These “in crescendo” figures are due to the increase in places offered that occurred in Lanzarote in April, coinciding with Easter. Specifically, 61,070 places were offered compared to 60,486 in March.
