Unemployment rose by 4.8% in January, with 532 more unemployed in Lanzarote

Compared to the figures from a year ago, there is still a decrease of 39%.

Unemployment rises by 464 people in Lanzarote and reaches the worst figure of the year with 11,384 unemployed

After eight consecutive months of decline, unemployment rose again in January in Lanzarote, with an increase of 4.8%. In total, the month ended with 11,663 unemployed people registered on the island, which is 532 more than in December.

However, in the year-on-year variation, there is still a decrease in unemployment of 39%, since in January 2021 there were 19,120 unemployed people on the island.

Of the 11,663 currently, 6,678 are women and 4,985 are men. Regarding the distribution by municipalities, more than half are concentrated in Arrecife, with 6,096. It is followed by San Bartolomé with 1,265, Teguise with 1,251, Tías with 1,217, Yaiza with 1,023, Tinajo with 425 and Haría with 386.
