The 18 Volconsa workers will return to strike this Friday, after the Arrecife City Council has neither rescued this service, nor has it called another tender for the award of the same. Cándido García, delegate of Intersindical Canaria, warns that employees could end up on the street, since "the City Council has decided to terminate the service on September 30." In addition, they state that the facilities they cover, that is, the four soccer fields, the cultural centers, the civic center, and the exhibition hall of El Charco de San Ginés, could close their doors.

Therefore, the workers will concentrate this Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the doors of the Arrecife City Council to demand that it rescue this service, which is the only solution left, since "there will not be time to carry out a tender before the end of the month." "The City Council has not fulfilled what was promised to the bankruptcy administrators in July, which was to launch the tender as quickly and urgently as possible. The issue is stalled and they have decided to terminate the service without having awarded it to another company", García denounced.

The solution, according to Intersindical Canaria, is "in the hands of the City Council", which should "rescue the service" as a matter of urgency, something that seems "not to be in their plans". "If they don't rescue it, we will be on the street and with the facilities closed", he pointed out. In addition, García asks the City Council to "stop lying", since now it says that "it cannot rescue the service because it is not as urgent as the garbage one", when the mayor "can decree it at any time".

"Thousands of users" affected

"The workers are very worried, because the City Council has not done what it had to do. We have been warning about it for a long time. From the City Council they have not even contacted us to explain what they have done. The situation is quite complicated due to the attitude of the City Council", García insisted, who recalled that "Manuel Fajardo Feo and Paca Toledo publicly said that this service was urgent".

In addition to the affected workers, García has assured that this situation will affect the "thousands of users" of these facilities, mainly the clubs that train and play in the four soccer fields of the capital of Lanzarote.

On the other hand, García recalled that the workers are still owed six days of June and the extra pay, although they have received the July and August payrolls from the bankruptcy administrators.
