The Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Lanzarote informs companies that it has at their disposal a service for issuing digital certificates, which have been mandatory since January 1st.

The new regulations require the use of electronic means in communications and notifications from the Tax Agency to certain entities for all types of tax, customs or statistical procedures. They are also necessary in the collection management of other entities and public administrations.

The Royal Decree of October 29, 2010 affects, among others, public limited companies, limited liability companies and temporary business associations (UTEs). Until January 1st, the use of electronic means was optional, but as it has become mandatory, the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote has decided to make this digital certificate issuance service available to companies.

The certificates issued by the island's highest business institution are for membership of an entity, for a legal person, for a representative, for electronic invoicing and for special authorization. A certificate of this type, according to the Chamber of Commerce, "is essential to guarantee security in telematic communications that are carried out in the business world and are valid and compatible with the current requirements to which many companies will be subjected from this first month of 2011".

Likewise, the Chamber of Commerce will hold an informative conference on the mandatory electronic notification on the afternoon of this Monday, January 17, starting at 4:00 p.m., at its facilities.

What is a digital certificate?

The certificate proves the identity of the person who signs or sends a document by electronic procedure. From this month, to access the notifications of the State Tax Administration Agency, the entities affected by this Royal Decree must identify themselves by means of that electronic signature.

The digital certificates issued by the Chambers of Commerce through Camerfirma comply with all the requirements demanded by the Tax Agency and with the electronic signature and certificate policy in the scope of the General State Administration, so any entity will be able to access the Tax Agency's notification service without wasting time and money on travel or physical mailings.
