No hotel on the island will open its doors this week, according to the spokesman for the Insular Association of Hotel and Apartment Businessmen (Asolan), Franciso Martínez, "It makes no sense to open because there are no people", he pointed out.
Phase 1 of the de-escalation, in which Lanzarote will enter this Monday, May 11, contemplates the opening of hotels, except for common areas and with restrictions in restaurants, but Asolan affirms that no establishment will do so, and they still do not know when they will begin to operate.
"If, as the president of the Government of the Canary Islands says, connectivity with the Peninsula can be restored at the beginning of June, some small ones may open then, because there will be some demand, but we don't know yet", the Asolan spokesman stated.
Regarding the large hotels, Asolan foresees that they will not open their doors "until the international market recovers", a fact that they believe may not occur "until October". "Unfortunately, that's the way it is and it doesn't only depend on Spain, but also on Europe".
In fact, the Asolan spokesman believes that "care" should be taken with tourists coming from abroad in the future. "Because, for example, there is talk that the British expect to fly in mid-June, but look at how they are, they are not aware that they have a problem", concluded Francisco Martínez, referring to the effects that the pandemic is causing in the United Kingdom, which already exceeds Spain in the number of deaths.
