With more than fifty years carrying out the tasks of mooring and unmooring in the port of Arrecife, Torremor e Hijos S.L. is undoubtedly a company of great professionals backed by its long history.
They have been participants in the history and tourist and maritime development of the island. Some of these workers, with more than thirty years of experience in the sector, have been active collaborators and a signatory part of the first Provincial Agreement of the Mooring and Unmooring Service of Ships throughout the State.
Together with the arduous work of the Spanish Association of Ship Mooring Companies (AEEA), it has been possible to dignify a profession endorsed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which agreed to recently approve revised guidelines on the minimum training and qualification requirements for mooring personnel, required in all ports of the world. This agreement represents a major step forward in the fight for a high quality and safe service, which is also internationally recognized.
Aware of the important boom in environmental awareness and driven by its spirit of avant-garde and desire to comply with European requirements, the company Torremor e Hijos S.L., makes available to the port its 50 years of experience for the development of activities in the fight against pollution. This service is established as a prevention (and action if necessary) against possible spills of fuels and/or polluting products for subsequent treatment, something considered a priority in all European ports, of high socioeconomic value and of special importance for the inhabitants of the island of Lanzarote.
On this occasion, we were able to see the mooring men carrying out a successful drill aimed at preventing spills in the port. The maneuver is carried out with two strictly prepared boats and a support raft, two all-terrain vehicles and seven highly qualified workers for the disposal of the containment barrier, placement of buoys, and subsequent collection of waste for treatment.
