Intercity Bus continues to exceed passenger figures thanks to its commitment to accessibility, innovation and sustainability

Transport for all, which is efficient, of quality, and respectful with the environment, that is the development plan that Intercity Bus is carrying out. The intercity transport company of the Island has increased by 421,168 passengers in the first quarter, compared to 2022.

The acquisition of new buses adapted for the entire population, a functioning App and a work environment based on consensus translate into very positive figures. After the extension of the public transport aid agreement planned for 2023, Intercity Bus has not stopped growing, both in resources and in the number of passengers.

Thus, there are many elements of the transport chain that individually already meet the conditions of a universal design; especially in the fleet of buses that Intercity is acquiring. The so-called Crossway, or "low-floor buses", have arrived at Intercity to provide a plus of technology and accessibility to its mobile park, currently composed of 64 vehicles. Similarly, these buses have infrastructures that allow all travelers, including people with functional -physical, psychic and sensory- diversity, to enter and leave them without problems. Specifically, thanks to the training of its drivers, the provision of ramps and access platforms, and the HTC Hanover Display sound and sign system. On the other hand, Intercity's commitment to this model of buses has a direct relationship with its low CO2 emission. In this sense, the purpose is to encourage citizens and tourists to use an accessible, efficient and reliable service -endorsed by quality seals- that benefits the entire community and, in addition, reduces the impact of road congestion and atmospheric and acoustic pollution on the Island.

Similarly, the company is aware that all these measures would not be useful without a professional, willing and collaborative team. Consequently, several agreements have recently been signed with CCOO, through cooperation and consensus, related to working conditions and equality in the professional environment. Also, a code of good conduct has been drafted to increase the safety of all passengers, including drivers.

Also, the company is directing a large part of its efforts towards innovation. The commitment to digitalization has been clear for years, through platforms such as Moovit or Google Transit. In addition, since 2020 it has an App that provides direct information to users about lines and route changes. It is also fine-tuning its communication channels in a more visual, attractive and dynamic way. In this way, it will soon release a new website that lives up to its service and the demands of the market, thus improving the experience of travelers. "Intercity Bus is working hard so that citizens as a whole can move comfortably and complete the transport chain without missing links; for this, the environment, the infrastructures and the vehicle must be equipped with the mechanisms and systems that allow their use by all passengers. Complying with these factors is our responsibility, especially to continue responding to the great demand and needs of all our travelers," said Esther Cabrera, director of Intercity Bus.
