The Government of the Canary Islands has decreed the closure of the 24 day centers for the elderly that make up its public network for 14 extendable days. This is a preventive measure to avoid the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus in the Canary Islands, following the recommendations of the Ministry of Health.

The only exception that applies is to day centers that serve people with disabilities and dependency, which remain open but with restricted activities. Likewise, in those day centers where a floor is dedicated to the care of dependent people, entry will only be allowed to the user population, with the rest of the center remaining closed.

In addition to these measures, the public is reminded that family visits to socio-health centers and residences for the elderly are prohibited.

The measure affects the entire network of 24 day centers aimed at developing leisure and free time programs such as workshops, recreational events, gymnastics and dances, among others.

Specifically, in Lanzarote it affects the Day Center for the Elderly in Arrecife. In Fuerteventura, the Day Center for the Elderly in Puerto del Rosario and the Day Center for the Elderly in Gran Tarajal.

On the island of Gran Canaria, the Day Care Center for the Elderly in Las Palmas, Marzagán Day Center, Day Center for the Elderly in Las Palmas (Ciudad Alta), Agaete Senior Center, Day Center for the Elderly in Arucas, Day Center for the Elderly in Ingenio, San Bartolomé de Tirajana Day Center for the Elderly, La Aldea de San Nicolás Day Center, Vecindario Day Center, Sta. Mª de Guía Day Center and Telde Day Center for the Elderly will be closed until further notice.

On the island of Tenerife, the Day Center II for the Elderly in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Isidro Rodríguez Castro Day Center for the Elderly, Day Center for the Elderly in Guía de Isora, Day Center for the Elderly in Güimar, Day Center for the Elderly in Icod de los Vinos, Day Center for the Elderly in Puerto de la Cruz, Day Center for the Elderly in Los Realejos and Day Center for the Elderly in San Miguel de Abona.

As well as the Senior Centers of Santa Cruz de La Palma, in La Palma and the El Hierro Day Center, on the island of El Hierro.
