A terrace of a house in Altavista has been accumulating waste for a year: It is the municipal garbage dump

"It's the municipal dump." This is how a neighbor defines what is happening on a terrace of a private house that has been closed for "at least seven years", on El Salvador street, in Altavista. She lives right next door and assures that "for a little over a year", some people have been throwing garbage inside. "I fear this will bring plagues of all kinds," she says.

This neighbor explains that she filed a complaint with the Arrecife City Council a year ago, but they never answered her. "I have not received any response yet and no one has come to the house to clean, although the entrance is disgusting," she complains. "I also sent an email to the Cabildo, which contacted the City Council. The City Council asked me to go there again and bring a copy of my complaint, but I already did it and I don't plan to keep going around in circles," she says.

The City Council has limited itself to saying that they can only act on private property if there is a complaint in the City Council Registry or before the Local Police of Arrecife. This neighbor even assures that years ago "people moved into that house." "The Police took them out and walled up the house, but now it is full of dirt," she warns.

Fear of rats

This woman cannot explain why "someone has decided to throw garbage there." "There are dirty people who throw garbage there. This is a disgrace. I'm afraid that rats will come out and get into the yard," she insists. And it is that among the waste in this patio there is "everything", from "cardboard and clothes to piled up plastics".

This neighbor assures that before "a man used to come who took care of this house, because the owner lives in Las Palmas." "He hasn't come for a long time and the garbage continues to accumulate there", she says, while warning of the state of abandonment of the house.
