A resident of the Altavista neighborhood, in Arrecife, criticizes the "negligence" on the part of the Local Police and the "lack of civic-mindedness" of drivers who drive along Coronel Capaz street to go to the pharmacy in this area. "Drivers drive on the sidewalk from the beginning of the street to the very door of the pharmacy, with the danger that this entails for the residents who live there," says Fran Betancort.
This resident assures that drivers leave their cars "on top of the sidewalk, blocking the doors of homes and, even, on several occasions they have been about to run over someone who leaves their house, since they drive on the sidewalk without the slightest consideration." Fran Betancort contacted this Wednesday with the Local Police, since a driver was "about to run him over" around 12:15 p.m. "If I hadn't jumped inside the house, he would have run me over," he says.
This driver, according to this resident, did not even apologize but "got angry when I told him that he could not park there" and that he was going to report it to the Local Police. "He laughed saying that I should go and call them. He left the vehicle on the sidewalk and went to the pharmacy laughing," he laments. This resident was waiting for the agents, but "they did not show up", so he went to the police station to ask what had happened.
"The police officer's response was that if I had a problem with traffic I should call them and they would go if they could and if I wanted to report it, it had to be to the National Police. Immediately afterwards, I went to the National Police station, where they informed me that for problems related to traffic I should go to the Local Police," he indicates.
Faced with this "negligence of the State Security Forces with citizens and residents", Fran Betancort has decided to bring this matter to the attention of the readers of La Voz.
