Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote closed its preparation with a hard-fought victory against Puerto del Carmen (23-18) in a disputed friendly match held at the Municipal Pavilion of San Bartolomé. In a match marked by the intensity and dedication of both teams, the locals were able to remain calm in key moments and secure the victory.
The match started with total balance, with a score tied at five near the 10th minute. However, Zonzamas began to make a difference thanks to a great feint by Gabi Romero and a counterattack by Gleynis Reyes, which put the local team ahead 8-5. This advantage forced Puerto del Carmen to call a timeout to reorganize.
Zonzamas goalkeeper, Ana Martín, was one of the great protagonists of the match, with a spectacular performance under the posts, especially in the first half. Martín stopped all kinds of balls and frustrated several attempts by Puerto del Carmen, helping her team maintain the lead. Despite the efforts of Zonzamas, Puerto del Carmen took advantage of a double local exclusion to reduce the distance, placing themselves at 9-8. However, two consecutive goals by Brenda Roger returned control to the batatero team, which reached halftime with a 14-11 lead.
In the second half, Zonzamas extended their lead thanks to Gabi Romero, but Puerto del Carmen reacted quickly and managed to get closer again. The signings of Puerto del Carmen played a good role, managing to tie the match in the 10th minute with a penalty (16-16), which put Zonzamas in trouble.
The match became more tense from then on, with several errors on both sides. In the 16th minute, a red card for Lucía Olivier, from Puerto del Carmen, marked a turning point. Although the visitors tied again, Gleynis Reyes appeared again to score two consecutive goals in the 23rd minute, which allowed Zonzamas to take a breather (19-17).
In the last minutes, Puerto del Carmen tried to react by calling a timeout, but Zonzamas sealed the victory with two counterattack goals that put the score at 22-18. Ingrid Roger put the icing on the cake with a beautiful goal near the buzzer, closing the match with a definitive 23-18.
This friendly match left good feelings for Zonzamas, who showed their ability to overcome difficult moments and manage the tightest stretches of the match. The batatero team is preparing for its league debut next Saturday against the newly promoted Carballal.
