The sports management of Unión Deportiva Lanzarote is working on the preparation of the sports project for the 2021/2022 season, a campaign in which the red-and-white team will once again compete in the Canary Islands group of the Third Division. One of the first decisions taken has been the non-continuity of Josu Uribe as technical manager of UD Lanzarote for the next season and work is being done on hiring a new coach to lead the project.

"It has not been an easy decision to make by the sports management and the Board of Directors of UD Lanzarote," they point out, but the club understands that it needs a change on the bench of the first team for the next season. The weighed decision has been communicated to Josu Uribe himself on Thursday, after holding a meeting to exchange different opinions and analyze the campaign.

UD Lanzarote values "enormously the work done by Josu Uribe in the recently concluded season, a campaign that has been marked by different non-sporting situations that have not allowed the squad to focus on giving the maximum performance". During the pre-season, preparation matches could not be played, the team was stopped for almost three months due to the pandemic, or a marathon of matches was played in the final stretch of the regular phase of the competition, were some of the details of the development of the season.

At the head of UD Lanzarote, Josu Uribe has directed 24 official matches with a balance of 8 victories, 5 draws and 11 defeats, to conquer a total of 29 points. The scoring facet has been one of the great problems of the team, with 22 goals in favor and 23 against. In the first phase of the competition, the red-and-white team occupied the sixth position in the classification and in the second phase they soon ran out of options to fight for the promotion play-off positions.

UD Lanzarote wants to publicly thank the "professionalism and willingness shown by Josu Uribe at the head of the bench of the Third Division team, being able to overcome all the obstacles that he has encountered in an atypical season". The sports management is working on hiring a new coach to lead the UD Lanzarote sports project for the 2021/2022 season.
