Uncertainty had taken over the Latin sailing family. Finally, the problems have been fixed and last weekend the season started in the 5-meter category. Nine boats participated in the first regatta of the season, with the Insular Center of Nautical Sports taking the first victory.
The Federation Trophy has been in charge of kicking off the 2009 season of small boats. A trophy consisting of five regattas, which aims to prepare the boats for the next Canary Islands Latin Sailing Championship. A championship that will be held in the month of April and that will serve to recover the one that was not held last season.
The first regatta of the season, scheduled for Saturday afternoon, had to be suspended due to the strong intensity of the wind. The weather conditions improved on Sunday morning and the participating boats were able to set sail.
The organization arranged a regatta field, with a beacon located in front of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the second beacon was placed in front of the old commercial dock and the third was in the open sea. The Insular Center of Nautical Sports, the Furia II and the Secretos del Sur, were the main protagonists of the Sunday regatta.
The fans who had gathered next to the Theme Park to see the course of the regatta, had the opportunity to see a beautiful upwind leg, in which the leading positions were slightly altered. The Furia II moved to occupy the first place, while the Secretos del Sur lost several positions.
In the second lap of the regatta field, the Dakota climbed several positions and culminated with a third place at the finish line. The wind changed direction, forcing the organization to change the situation of the finish line, placing it in front of the old commercial dock.
In this new section, the Insular Center of Nautical Sports snatched the first place from the Furia II, which earned him the triumph in the first regatta of the season. The Crisaida-Archipiélago TV and the Guatiza, with a fourth and fifth place respectively, completed the first five positions.
The next regatta of the Federation Trophy will be on Sunday, March 29 starting at 11:00 am. The start, if weather conditions permit, will take place in the vicinity of the Theme Park.
