The P.G.A golf championship Lanzafuerte Fuerteventura is presented

On Monday, the 24th P.G.A. Championship of Spain, Lanzafuerte Fuerteventura Trophy, which will take place from April 23 to 26 April, was presented on the high seas, on the Las Salinas de Antigua course, in Fuerteventura. The event was presided over by the president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Mario Cabrera; the vice-president of the first institution of Lanzarote, Fabián Martín; and the tourism councillors of both corporations, Águeda Montelongo and María José Docal.

The Councillor for Tourism, María José Docal, expressed her wish for success for this edition, which is being held in Fuerteventura, assuming that this will also be the case in the next edition in 2010, with Lanzarote as the destination.

The representatives of both Cabildos congratulated each other on this collaboration with the P.G.A. of Spain, whose objective is to reaffirm both islands as a preferred golf destination, which currently has six golf courses and a pitch & putt.

The presentation highlighted the fact that Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are linked by an attractive fifteen-minute sea crossing that allows fans to be in constant contact with nature, and that there are top quality infrastructures on both islands, which allow for other types of attractions for those who do not want to play golf (endless beaches and a dreamlike climate), so they stated that "it is not surprising that the P.G.A. has recommended it as a holiday destination".

Investment to promote golf

The Ministry of Tourism of the Canary Islands Government practically doubles its investment in the promotion of the islands' golf offer to attract this type of tourist. Last year, the Ministry allocated 1,150,700 euros to the promotion of this product, through fairs, tournaments and advertising campaigns, while in 2009 it has reached two million euros.

In this way, more than three million euros have been invested in the promotion strategy of the golf product of the Canary Islands in the period 2008-2009, in the main issuing markets of tourists interested in the practice of this sport.

During the P.G.A. a tourist package for amateur players will be marketed through the [Internet portals specialising in golf->www.golfspain.com] with the highest number of visits and unique users in Spain. The package will consist of five nights in a five-star hotel on a half-board basis, registration in the official PRO-AM of the tournament, a training Green Fee and the possibility of following the championship step by step.
