Once again, the Ironman Canarias Lanzarote Triathlon will break a record for participants. One of the most important events on the Lanzarote sports calendar will have nearly 1,700 participants this year, representing 47 different countries. These figures place the Ironman Lanzarote as one of the most important in the world, and many triathletes come to Lanzarote to see if what they say about its toughness is true. The event will be held next Saturday, May 19, starting at 07:00 hours on Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen.

On the morning of this Wednesday, the official presentation of the twenty-first edition of the Ironman Canarias Lanzarote Triathlon took place. An event attended by the Sports Councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín, the Vice President of the Cabildo, Joaquín Caraballo, and the Sports Director of the Ironman Lanzarote, Kenneth Gasque. They were in charge of informing about the peculiarities of this sporting event.

The Ironman Canarias Lanzarote Triathlon continues to grow, and this year it has received more than 2,000 registration requests. Finally, 1,690 triathletes will start on May 19. A figure that represents a record and far exceeds the numbers of the past edition. 48 countries will be represented in the Ironman Lanzarote, with Spain, with 500 triathletes, being the country that contributes the largest number of participants.

Among the favorites to win are the Belgian Bert Jammaer, winner of the Ironman Lanzarote on two occasions, the British Stephen Bayliss, and the third-place finisher last year, the Danish Esben Hovgaard. In the women's category, the participation of Bella Bayliss, winner of the event on two occasions, stands out. And among the national runners, all eyes will be on Víctor del Corral.

There will be two major absences in this twenty-first edition of the Ironman Lanzarote. Local triathletes Gregorio Cáceres and Nicholas Peter Ward will not be starting. Both triathletes are injured and will not be able to repeat the successes achieved in previous editions. The Ironman Lanzarote will have more than fifty local triathletes and more than one hundred from the Canary Islands.

The route will hardly undergo any variations compared to the past edition. The 3.8 kilometers of swimming will take place on Playa Grande (Puerto del Carmen), the 180 kilometers of cycling around the island, and the 42.2 kilometers of running will consist of three laps of a route that will reach La Concha beach. The event will be on May 19 at 07:00 hours. The day before, the Ironkids will be held, an event aimed at the youngest and which already has more than 200 registered.
