On Tuesday, the twentieth edition of the Torch of Concord "For Fair Play" took place, proceeding to light the torch in Las Montañas del Fuego and which will arrive next Thursday in Santa María de Guía (Gran Canaria), the place where the XXIII International Tagoror of Football and Futsal Referees will be closed. The fire of fair play toured the municipalities of Tinajo, San Bartolomé, Tías and Arrecife, and in this edition the purpose has been to reach the largest number of schools. The little ones have been in charge of enhancing fair play in football, in sports and concord in daily life.
José Miguel Castillón, General Administrator of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, was in charge of lighting the Torch of Concord. An act that was celebrated as usual in the Montañas del Fuego. Esteban Hernández, president of the Technical Committee of Referees of Las Palmas, was present, accompanied by Gerardo Hernández, president of the Technical Committee of Lanzarote, Antonio Suárez, president of the Interinsular Football Federation of Las Palmas, Migdalia Machín, Minister of Sports of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and Jesús Machín, mayor of Tinajo.
The youngsters of CD Tahíche were the first to carry the torch, covering the first meters of the journey. We wanted to reward the loyalty of CD Tahíche, a club that every year moves several of its players from the beginning of the tour. In the first meters of the journey, Esteban Hernández, Antonio Suárez and José Miguel Castillón himself, traveled a few meters in the Timanfaya National Park.
The fire of concord reached several educational centers on the island in this edition. The first stop was at the Guiguan School (Mancha Blanca), and later a new stop was made at the Los Volcanes Municipal, a stadium where the students of the Nuestra Señora de Los Volcanes School (Tinajo) were concentrated. And in San Bartolomé the Torch of Concord would reach the Ajei School. The students of the three educational centers read manifestos in favor of fair play in football, sports and in general life.
The Torch of Concord "For Fair Play" is not an exclusive act of football and futsal, and every year more and more sports groups join this initiative. In this edition, athletes from the San Bartolomé Wrestling Club, Zonzamas Handball Club, Ajei Karate Club or Conejero Basketball Club participated. It was in Arrecife where it had a greater number of participants, touring the main streets of the capital. Previously, the fire traveled along the Avenida de Las Playas in Puerto del Carmen, receiving the applause of hundreds of tourists who were surprised by the initiative.
The last relay of the Torch of Concord was carried out by Iriome Curbelo, the youngest referee of the Lanzarote Referees Association and being in charge of lighting the brazier located in the Lanzarote Sports City. An act with which the first day was concluded, moving the fire on Wednesday to Fuerteventura and on Thursday to Gran Canaria.
