The new year will begin with great force for wave lovers because it will do so with the celebration of the 1st Body Board Championship, "El Quemao La Santa", which will take place in one of the best enclaves in the world for the practice of this sport, the area known as El Quemao in the town of La Santa.
The Championship is possible thanks to the desire and enthusiasm that a group of young people from La Santa (Tinajo) who love this sport have put into celebrating the first event held in the Canary Islands in extreme conditions.
For this, the Championship has a waiting period that runs from January 1 to 31, 2006 with the purpose of seeking the best wave conditions. One of the characteristics of the event is its invitational nature, that is, only those federated athletes who are invited and who guarantee a certain level may access it, all this not due to an excluding whim but due to the level of the waves in which the Championship will be held, and for the safety of the athletes.
So far there are 32 athletes who will attend from all the Islands, all of them high-level surfers who will make the show served. Yeray Martínez (Current Champion of Spain), the locals Génesis Reyes and Dani Guerra, among others, will be some of the brave ones who will dare to go down the huge waves of La Santa.
The Tinajo City Council and brands such as Churchill, Science, Sniper, Dharma, Salomé Shop, WR Rider, Lpsurf.com, Hot Buttered, Olala, Club La Santa, Olala, Bar piscina, Primitive and La Santa Surf also collaborate in the championship.
