The Puerto Calero Racing Team faces its fourth season in the GP42' class, already being one of the benchmark teams both nationally and internationally.
The Portugal Trophy, which will be held in the Atlantic waters of Cascais, will be the first test for the GP 42' in a season that is expected to be intense and in which the Puerto Calero Racing Team will combine, for the second consecutive season, its participation in the two benchmark circuits in world sailing: Audi MedCup and RC44' Championship Tour.
The 2009 season was spectacular and highly contested, and the 2010 season is expected to be equally competitive in a class that includes America's Cup sailors, Olympic and world champions.
Cascais will also be a good start to the circuit, as the last participation of Puerto Calero in these same waters in August 2009 remains in memory and history, where it achieved the Owner Global Championship with Daniel Calero at the helm, coinciding with the Troféu Quebramar-Chrysler.
The Puerto Calero crew will be skippered once again by José María Ponce and will include Gustavo Martínez Doreste as tactician, navigator Alicia Ageno, and Olympic champion Domingo Manrique at the spi, among others. The rest of the crew is the same as in previous seasons.
The Project Manager of Puerto Calero, Daniel Calero, is very excited about the GP 42' season that is about to begin: "We are going to Cascais eager to do well and with the aim of defending the title of champions of the Audi MedCup circuit of 2009. We have great enthusiasm and hope to start as we finished last year". The fact that the team structure is maintained "is very positive, since the crew members know each other perfectly and I think this is fundamental for the teamwork on board. The fact that everyone knows the type of competition that the Audi Medcup circuit is means that everyone knows that in this circuit, which is so competitive and where small mistakes are paid very dearly, the coordination on board must be almost perfect. The most consistent team will win".
