Although initially there were supposed to be thirteen boats taking the start in this season opener for the five-meter boats, finally eleven jumped into the water and enjoyed the Lanzarote Opening Trophy and the first scoring event for the Federation Cup.
The regatta, from the beginning, had a stable north wind that predicted a peaceful day without major incidents, with two boats, the 'Playa Blanca' of Yoni Umpierrez and the 'Isidoro y Manuela' ? Pizzeria Di Napoli of José Pascual, who took the initiative from the first moment.
The regatta course, marked by a windward ? leeward that they had to do three times, until finishing near the breakwaters of Playa Dorada. The wind returned to make an appearance, but the fight was no longer between southerners and majoreros, but the classic 'Chocolate' fought to defend the first position. Some boats were retiring due to problems and others were holding on as they could, after having gone from 18 knots to 0 and then to almost 20, in a matter of seconds.
The fight for the top positions was maintained, while the committee was forced to reduce the regatta course, given the more than probable threat that the wind would once again become the protagonist. And so it was. The boat skippered by Matías Garcías, the 'Furia I', was heading for the finish line after passing the last buoy, followed by the 'Isidoro y Manuela 3 ? Pizzeria Di Napoli' and the 'Playa Blanca', but the wind held a new surprise. Suddenly the 'Furia I' stopped, the 'Isidoro y Manuela', also and the 'Playa Blanca', which pulled through the middle, continued sailing until reaching them. Once on par with the leader, it returned to make an appearance, but it was too late. The 'Playa Blanca' maintained the lead of the regatta and rose, by a few seconds, with the Opening Trophy, followed by the 'Furia I' and the 'Isidoro y Manuela',
In how many positions was the Bernasan, followed in the classification by the 'Pescaderóa Titerroy' and the 'Playa Dorada'. The boats that withdrew from the regatta were the 'Escuela de Vela', 'CRI ? Ricoh', 'CID Náuticos 3', 'Terrible' and 'Isla de Lanzarote'. This Sunday will take place, from 12:00 hours, the Regatta of Nuestra Señora del Carmen and will be the end of the Federation Cup, taking into account the results of the two days.
