This Friday, and after eight days of championship, the last day of trials of the Lanzarote International Regatta is held in Marina Rubicón, an event that since February 9 hosts more than 350 athletes from 39 countries on four continents.

After yesterday, in which the experienced Race Committee of the Canary Islands event had no choice but to cancel the races due to the constant changes in wind direction, a long last day is expected.

From 10:30 a.m. the Opening tests will begin with the fleets divided into two regatta fields: the one near Papagayo beach –with the Nacra 17 mixed catamarans- and the one located in the Bocayna strait, in front of Marina Rubicón –with the iQFOil flying windsurf boards-. Once these tests are finished, the so-called Medal Races will begin.

In the case of the Nacra class, it is a test in which only the top ten classified compete, which scores double and cannot be discarded. The canaries Tara Pacheco and Andrés Barrio are the only Spaniards in the running and currently occupy the eighth place overall. A great position for a crew that has been sailing together for only three months.

As for the iQFOil, the Medal Series are scheduled to begin from 1:30 p.m. With a different scoring system, they will compete in several tests to decide who will be the three windsurfers who compete for the final victory in the definitive regatta, in which the one who crosses the finish line first will be the champion of the Lanzarote International Regatta in that class.

The sevillian Pilar Lamadrid, number 1 in the world ranking, is the provisional leader of the women's category. The british Sam Sills is, in the absence of a day, the male leader.
