Slalom Tinajo

Exciting day of the Canary Islands Slalom Championship and the Provincial Championship of Las Palmas Car-cross, thanks to the Lanzarote event organized by CD. Evesport, which had a vibrant spectacle on the Tinajo-La Santa section that was enjoyed by a large number of fans and, above all, the participants themselves, offering the best of their vehicles and their hands at the wheel, making it an unforgettable day of motorsport on land on the island of Lanzarote.

Many protagonists had this eleventh edition of the slalom dedicated to the memory of the driver Yefry Hernández, with teams and drivers from almost all the Canary Islands. The best in the tourism category were Juan Carlos Quintana-José María Herrera, who took the Skoda Fabia Rally2 to the top of the podium after clearly winning in the four timed sections – two in each direction – with a final advantage of 14.9 seconds, leading the overall classification.

An important victory to continue shortly in the CERT, but this time he was accompanied by José María Herrera, who experienced his first victory with Quintana after several years without putting on his driver's helmet. Their best times marked (outward and return) were: 3.32.4 and 3.29.7.

In this way, the drivers from Gran Canaria improved their second place from last year, unseating the team from Fuerteventura, Borja and Rubén Pérez with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX, with which they had another great race after losing a lot of time on the first run by catching up with two participants, a circumstance that was resolved by the sports commissioners by assigning them the same time as their most direct rival for second place on the podium, the also majoreros Esteban Feo-Jesús Alonso, with another Evo. Only 8.8 seconds in favor of Borja separated them in the fight for the other two steps of the final podium, also sharing those positions in the four sections carried out.

The group of Mitsubishi Evos was large and also took fourth place with the team of Javier Sosa-Javier Fragiel, who in turn took the trophy for class 7 and acted as a barrier for the winner among the two-wheel drive and first of class 5, where once again Cristian Calderín-Verónica Tejera repeated first place with the Golf GTI, although this time Roberto Hernández with the Skoda Fabia and Suso Lemes with the Ford Fiesta made it a little more complicated.

Highlight the sixth absolute place for the young Jonathan Hernández, who was making his debut as a driver after several seasons in the right seat. His result rewarded him with the FCA Junior Trophy.

In class 4, the Opel Corsa GSi of Jordán Aguiar-Achén Perdomo prevailed, one of the visitors who quickly adapted to the section. Roberto Hernández was at a high level with the Skoda Fabia N3, obtaining the trophy for the best driver from the host municipality of Tinajo, as did Mario Guillén as the first co-driver from Tinajo.

VERY EVEN CAR-CROSS

In the car-cross category, the local driver Raúl Armas repeated his triumph with his Speed-Car, taking first place by only 6.4 seconds over another of the most combative drivers, Daniel Pérez with Kincar-Cross, while the podium was completed by Juan Izquierdo with an MV Racing, only 5.4 seconds behind the previous one, in a very disputed podium among the single-seaters of the land specialty. Armas won two of the four passes, one for Pérez and another for Rubén de León, the latter fourth and winner in class 10 with his MV Racing, while the trophy for class 11 went to Yeray Pérez with another Kincar.

Daniel Pérez and Juan Izquierdo won respectively in the Kincar and MV Racing Cups, with their corresponding cash prizes and hams for the latter.

In quads, it was not the day for the leader Javier Peña, who had several problems and could only be third after many consecutive victories. Kevin Hernández received the baton and won for the first time with his Yamaha, ahead of Jesús Santiago with Suzuki, by only 6.9 seconds difference.

Good participatory atmosphere

The town of La Santa hosted the regional slalom for another year and the final touch was also put there with the awards ceremony, which was presided over by the Minister of Sports of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Francisco Aparicio, and the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, who appeared before the teams and the organization despite his convalescence from a recent knee operation.

The slalom finished on schedule and the public collaborated to the maximum to avoid parking in prohibited places, for better protection of the surrounding natural space in the best section on land in the Canary Islands "Tinajo-La Santa". All this with a very high degree of satisfaction from the drivers, especially from the followers of the Canary Islands Championship who traveled from La Palma and Tenerife, in a new scenario for them and who were getting to know each other in a good atmosphere with the rest of the drivers in all modalities.
