José Javier Hernández Cabrera, better known in the world of Canarian wrestling as Pepe "El Verga", became the new president of the Lanzarote Federation of Canarian Wrestling on Tuesday night. A position he assumes with great enthusiasm and with the challenge of getting Canarian wrestling to continue to progress on the island of Lanzarote.
-You have already taken office as president of the Lanzarote Federation of Canarian Wrestling, how are these four years of mandate presenting themselves?
There is a lot of desire to work. We know a little about Canarian wrestling and we will try to make things go as well as possible.
-You have surrounded yourself with a group of about ten people to run the Federation, what is the group like?
It's a good group. We are ten permanent people who have been elected in the electoral process and apart from that there is José Valentín and Dioni Romero, who are going to take care of the issue of selections together with "Monzo II". And then we have the Disciplinary Committee and the Referees Committee.
-What are the first objectives?
Finish the competition that has started and then work to try to hold a competition with Fuerteventura
-Are you working to create a League with Fuerteventura?
The first contacts with the president of Fuerteventura have already begun. The problem we have is the travel and we are working to get a shipping company to sponsor the competition and be able to hold the tournament together with Fuerteventura
-Will there be a Cup?
The lower categories are sure to have to compete in the Cup competition. We have to go to Gran Canaria to talk to the director of La Caja de Canarias, sponsor of the competition, to find out the subsidy we will have.
-Another of the main objectives is the recruitment of new referees?
We are going to run a referee course. José Miguel Fontes is working on its development and I think that in February or March we will run the referee course.
-The base categories of Canarian wrestling in Lanzarote enjoy good health and another of the challenges is to recover the teams that have disappeared. Will Guadarfía Arrecife return in the cadet category?
In the Cup they will compete again in the cadet category and for next season we will try to ensure that the club from the capital has all the teams.
