The Islas Canarias Puerto Calero, skippered by José María Ponce, began the comeback in the Camper-Trofeo Conde de Godó Regatta and recovered two points from the leader, Paolo Cian's Madrid-Caser, after the celebration of two races, the seventh and eighth of the global. In this way, the Canarian boat is placed four points behind the Madrid boat and with two races to be held tomorrow Sunday. Likewise, the Islas Canarias Puerto Calero has regained the lead in the Audi MedCup Circuit in the GP42' Series.
Two races were held today in the GP42' class with good results for the Islas Canarias Puerto Calero, as it has managed to reduce the advantage with respect to the leader, Madrid-Caser Seguros, by two points, so that the final day of the regatta will arrive with everything open and with two races to be held.
In the first race of the day, Laureano Wizner's Iberdrola was the dominator from the beginning and won the race, John Bassadone's Peninsula Petroleum was second, going from less to more, and the third place was contested by Islas Canarias Puerto Calero and Madrid-Caser Seguros, the Canarian boat made a great last downwind that allowed it to overtake Cian's team on the same finish line.
In the second race of the day, the Islas Canarias Puerto Calero once again remembered the one from last season and in some sections of the downwind, especially the last one, it had a lead of more than two hundred meters at the head. The boat skippered by Ponce - who in this second race had Daniel Calero on board - dominated from beginning to end. The second position was for Madrid-Caser, which maintained a fight until the finish line with Airis, which came in third.
The skipper of Islas Canarias Puerto Calero, José María Ponce, explained at the end of the day that "today was the first day that we ended up being the best team. The truth is that we have sailed well and we have managed to enter both times ahead of Madrid-Caser and cut two points in the regatta and put ourselves ahead again in the circuit". Regarding the last day of the Camper-Trofeo Conde de Godó Regatta and about the possibilities of winning the championship, he commented that "it is very difficult since Madrid-Caser has a lead of four points, but obviously we will fight until the end to win in Barcelona and remain first in the Audi MedCup".
The wind blew from Xaloc (southeast) with an intensity between 9 and 12 knots and with groundswell.
