Fourteen medals for the Local Police of Arrecife in the European Police and Fire Games

The Local Police of Arrecife has represented the capital of Lanzarote with a team of three agents (two police officers and a sub-commissioner) in the X European Police and Fire Games, “European Police & Fire Games”, which have taken place in the city of Braga, Portugal, between the 10th and 20th of this month of October. The outstanding representation of the Local Police Force returns to the Canary Islands with the success of fourteen medals.  

This international event aims to promote sport and physical exercise among members of the security and emergency forces, as well as to encourage the exchange of experiences and training among the participants.

With a solid tradition of participation in this type of competition both at European and world level, the Local Police of Arrecife reaffirms the importance of physical preparation in the performance of their duties. The agents, the participants emphasize, prepare meticulously and constantly, combining their profession with the practice of sports that they are passionate about, which not only improves their physical condition, but also translates into better performance in their daily work.

This commitment to their physical well-being benefits both their work in the police force and the society of Arrecife, which is reinforced by agents in excellent physical condition and sporting ability. In this edition, which brought together more than 2,500 participants from 32 European countries, as well as Brazil and Mexico as guests, more than fifty sports were contested in 120 modalities.

Arrecife, represented by José Antonio Lasso Tabares, José David Suárez Fernández and Jeremías Lasso Quintero return with pride with a total of 14 medals: 7 golds, 4 silvers and 3 bronzes in disciplines such as CrossFit, Weightlifting, Powerlifting, Karate and Mountain Bike, consolidating themselves as one of the outstanding teams.

Results of the Local Police of Arrecife in the X European Police and Fire Games:

• 1 Gold in MTB Marathon

 • 2 Golds in Crossfit (individual and by teams)

• 3 Golds in Weightlifting (Snatch, Clean & Jerk and Combined) • 3 Silvers in Powerlifting (Bench Press, Deadlift and Combined)

• 1 Bronze in Squat

• 1 Gold in Karate (Kumite)

• 1 Silver in Karate (Kumite)

• 2 Bronzes in Karate (Katas)

The mayor of Arrecife, and direct head of the Local Police, Yonathan de León, congratulates the Local Police Force, and the team, especially the three agents for their great sporting achievements, dedication, effort and for taking the name of the city to the top in a prestigious international competition, in this special year for Arrecife where the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife is commemorated.

In addition, the mayor recognizes the dedication and ability to combine high-level sport with service to the citizens, which are a source of pride for all. Thanks to them, Yonathan de León remarked, “Arrecife has a police force not only prepared to protect us, but also made up of true athletes who exemplify the values of effort and constant improvement.”

A double congratulation to the conejera society, which can feel safe and proud to have police officers who, in addition to guaranteeing security, demonstrate their commitment to an extraordinary sports representation in international competitions.
