The second round of the Lanzarote Island Rally Championship was once again won by David Tenorio and María Dolores Sáez. With the Opel Corsa GSI, he was the most consistent in the III RallySprint of Guatiza and took advantage of the mistakes made by his rivals in the qualifying rounds. Antonio Suárez and Camilo González completed the podium of the second event of the season in Lanzarote.
In the first official heat, Jesús Machín with the Citroen Xsara Kit Car set the best time (02:09.9), beating David Tenorio by eight tenths of a second (02:10.7). The key to the Guatiza RallySprint was in the second timed run. Jesús Machín, the provisional leader, lost all his chances of final victory after a broken driveshaft and a puncture that caused him to run off the road. Machín lost more than a minute in a section in which Antonio Suárez and his co-driver Moisés Robayna set the best time (2:11.6). Suárez was 1.4 seconds ahead of David Tenorio and Marcos González set the third best time.
After the first two runs, David Tenorio and María Dolores Sáez with the Opel Corsa GSI took the first place in the standings and David Tenorio followed them closely. Jesús Machín recovered in the third section and set the best time (2:08.9). Antonio Suárez with the Renault Megane continued his progression and took five tenths of a second off David Tenorio.
David Tenorio and María Dolores Sáez made a statement, setting the best time in the fourth and final timed run. Tenorio with a time of 02:08.9 was one second ahead of Jesús Machín and just over two seconds ahead of Antonio Suárez. A time that allowed him to take the first place in the general classification and achieve his second victory of the season after the victory in the Rallye La Candelaria ?Tías.
Antonio Suárez and Moisés Robayna with the Renault Megane had to settle for second place overall. The podium was completed with the presence of Camilo González and José Barrios with the Honda Civic Type-R, who also took the victory within Group N.
Once again, the public responded to the call of the engine and hundreds of fans gathered at the Guatiza RallySprint. At the end of the timed runs, the trophy presentation took place, an event attended by the mayor of Teguise, Juan Pedro Hernández.
