The Rolex Giraglia Cup, one of the most famous regattas in the Mediterranean, had more than 206 entries from 25 countries this year in its 66th edition, including representatives from Lanzarote. The regatta is made up of several events and it was in Swan 45 that the "Porrón IX - Dr. Senís", with several conejeros on board, was proclaimed undisputed champion by winning all the races.
Throughout the days the wind started with an intensity of 10 -12 knots reaching over 24 knots, although during the penultimate day of competition all scheduled events were suspended due to the low intensity and capricious changes of direction.
The crew of the "Porrón IX - Dr. Senís" is made up of its owner and skipper, Luis Senís, the conejeros Nano Negrín in tactics, Ricardo Terrades as main trimmer, David Martín and Antonio Martín in the cockpit, the Portuguese Nuno Barreto as jib and spinnaker trimmer, the Catalan Natalia Vía-Dufresne as navigator, also the Portuguese Gillberto Conde and Joâo Matos at the bow, Iñaki Martínez on the mast, Fernando Sauquillo on the piano and Juanlu Granados in the maneuver.
The triumph of the Valencian boat leaves them first with three points in the general classification, after completing three races in the three days. The podium closes with Ange Trasparent II, of the YC Monaco, occupying the second place and 7 points (2-2-3), while the French Axelle S is third with 9 points.
Lanzarote, cradle of great sailors
"This is further proof that the island of Lanzarote is one of the places in Spain that, due to population density, contributes the most top-level sailors to national sailing," they highlight in a statement in which they report the results of this test. "And it is no exaggeration, since being a small island there are numerous names of conejeros who triumph all over the world aboard numerous boats and in the most important regattas," they add.
