CD Magec Tías Against Gender Violence could not add a victory in their visit to Basket Almeda, returning empty-handed after a disputed match. The Lanzarote team, diminished by the lack of personnel due to injuries and work commitments, could only count on eight players, including Nereida Bermúdez, the team's second coach, who had to dress in shorts and play a few minutes.
The match started promisingly for the islanders, who achieved a lead of up to 7 points on the scoreboard against a Basket Almeda equally in need of a victory. However, the equality was maintained in the first quarter, which concluded with a 14-14 score.
In the second quarter, the dynamic of alternatives continued until the Catalan team achieved a 9-0 run, beginning to tip the balance in their favor. With a better performance in capturing rebounds, Basket Almeda took advantage of their opportunities and reached halftime with a 34-27 lead.
The 7-point disadvantage for Magec Tías was extended to 13 in the third quarter, further complicating the comeback. Despite improving under the hoops, the red and blacks only managed to reduce the difference to 8 points, starting the last quarter with a 49-41 deficit.
With the start of the final quarter, Magec Tías came out determined to achieve the feat. With effective counterattacks and points in the paint, the visitors began to believe in the comeback. However, the accumulation of personal fouls and the lack of rotations complicated the mission.
Despite the effort and good game shown, the match ended with a 67-63 victory for Basket Almeda, thus adding the seventh defeat for the Lanzarote team, which now occupies the tenth position in the standings.
At the conclusion of the match, the coach of Magec Tías Against Gender Violence, Cristo González, explained that "it was a match with alternatives on the scoreboard and a lot of equality that was not resolved until the final moment." Furthermore, he considered that "despite the absences of our outside players, we made a fairly correct approach and were able to compete head-to-head with a team that grows on its home court."
The coach of the red and blacks values the positive aspect that "the team competes head-to-head with all the teams and soon we will have that luck and consistency to get matches forward", and is convinced that soon the bad dynamic of results will be broken. CD Magec Tías Against Gender Violence will visit DPES CB Ciudad de Móstoles next weekend, thus closing its participation in the year 2024.
