Great match signed by CB Zonzamas CICAR Lanzarote before their fans at the Municipal Pavilion of San Bartolomé, where they received the visit of Uneatlantico Pereda, a team that came from winning their last two matches and who saw how it was impossible to maintain the streak against an exuberant local team.
The first minutes were of probing, with very tight scores. The Santander team held on as best they could with a fast and very flat defense on the six-meter line that Danae Miranda would be in charge of disarming, trying, with luck, with her outside shot.
On the other hand, the visitors ran into a much more advanced 6:0 red-and-black defense with which they only found the gap on the wings, from where Susi Sánchez was more comfortable tackling the rival shots.
The equality lasted until the 7th minute, when the locals let go in attack. A fantasy pass behind Mary Sánchez's back to connect with Cari Santana would end with a penalty that Gleinys Reyes would convert. Next, a second-wave counterattack also transformed by the Cuban after a great save by Susi Sánchez, would already put the difference at two goals (5-3) to begin the monologue of the batateras.
Patro Barambio's strategy served to completely nullify Uneatlantico Pereda's main danger, Camila Bozazzolla, an Argentine international and top scorer for the yellows, who only managed to score one goal. The weight of the visiting attack fell on the individual plays of the feinter Nerea Solares and the Italian winger, Matilde Tisato, who managed to put the ball in the squares on more than one occasion, even leveling the score again on the scoreboard. But the sensations clearly left the balance on the local side, with some red-and-black players who showed much more ease in attack.
The first quarter of an hour was completed with a beautiful goal from Jana Pinilla from a pass from Reyes to maintain the great game that the batateras were developing on the opposite court, where they were very comfortable until extending the advantage to four goals (12-8), forcing the visiting coach, Francisco Martín, to request the first timeout.
It didn't help much. Frustration took over Uneatlántico Pereda, who couldn't find the formula to overcome the defense posed by the locals, which changed from 6:0 to 5:1. On the few occasions that the Santander team managed to finish, they ran into the local goalkeeper or the goalposts.
Brenda Roger converted twice to leave the score at 16-8, forcing Martín to request a new timeout to prevent the bleeding from increasing. And it is that the visitors spent almost ten minutes without finding the goal, suffering a 7-0 partial.
Bonazzolla even tried from a penalty, but without success. The reply was exactly the same in the other goal with Gleinys Reyes scoring from a penalty. The face and cross of two teams that would finish the first half with a clear 18-10.
The second half resumed in the same way. Uneatlantico Pereda crashed against the wall of Patro Barambio's team, while the batateras calmed down to continue elaborating in attack and kill the match.
The red-and-black players continued with their own thing, with a hard and orderly defense, and a dream attack. Ingrid Roger then appeared with a new goal to increase the difference to nine goals, cut off a pass directed to Isaura Menin right after and then assist in a sublime way, with a suspension pass, to Jana Pinilla who scored at will from the six meters to leave the scoreboard at 23-13.
There was little more to tell with 15 minutes left to finish the match. A hapless Uniatlantico Pereda saw how Ana Martín also joined the party preventing them from reducing differences in the score, while those in red and black moved easily in attack.
The Santander coaching staff tried everything, but the efforts were in vain. The invention of the 3:3 yellow only benefited above all a Brenda Roger who intelligently found the back of the defense to continue increasing her particular goal tally.
The great local defense once again left the visitors with another five minutes in a goalscoring drought to conclude the match with an indisputable 35-19.
Zonzamas does maintain its streak, climbing this time to fifth place in a very tight table to which it is only one point away from second place. The batateras proved to be a very mature team, which knew how to stop and reduce the pace of the match in key moments, keeping a cool head even when some occasion was missed, to try again in a more calm way until finishing the possession with a shot.
Precisely the minimization of errors made possible that leap in quality to position themselves far above their rival. The Lanzarote team will continue working to maintain that effectiveness in a new day against one of the teams to take into account, CB Morvedre who comes rested after the postponements of their last three matches.
