CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen was defeated this Saturday (23-28) in its first official match of this season at the Tías Municipal against Cicar Lanzarote-San José Obrero (SJO) in a match corresponding to the Women's Division of Honor Cup of the Canary Islands Handball Federation. A bittersweet defeat as Juanmi Pérez's team left hopeful feelings for the start of the season.
The Tías team started better on the Tías court. SJO misjudged the initial efforts in defense and collected two consecutive expulsions that favored the locals' game. As the visitors recovered troops, their performance improved, but Puerto del Carmen continued with the pre-established plan, the one that runs in their yellow veins, run, run, and run, which, seasoned with the good work of the newcomer Brenda, left more than good feelings (5-3, 10').
The Tías team, far from being intimidated by the defensive physique of the Arrecife team, began to do considerable damage in the least expected place, the center of the capital's defense. As the minutes passed, SJO managed to balance the scales on the scoreboard (6-6, min. 15).
The physique of both squads held up despite being in the pre-season, each with their own style, but playing face to face. The final part of the first half became an exchange of goals until Juanmi Pérez's first timeout (9-9, min. 22:51).
A penalty goal by Miriam Páez put David Betancort's team ahead for the first time in the match (10-11). Touch after touch, the locals got a little out of the game, a situation taken advantage of by SJO. Typical trial match, the visitors requested a timeout with nineteen seconds left until halftime. Celia López failed to materialize the play from the visitor's board, and halftime was reached with a minimal difference on the scoreboard (12-13).
The second half started with two missiles from Beatriz Masseu. The returnee to the Tías goal, Made Cortez, managed to stop one of them. A wonderful lob from Cristina Betancort and a zigzag disguised as a work of art from Dely returned the tie to the scoreboard (15-15).
The Tías bench bitterly complained about the referee's indolence with the visitors' game but continued to row until they regained the lead (18-17, min. 10). Juanmi Pérez asked for another timeout and introduced changes. Lacking the push of Mónica Cabrera and Fernanda Insfran, a Gold and youth team like Puerto del Carmen gave minutes to two youth players, Carla De Marco and Nayra Gil. As the minutes passed, in the middle of the second half, everything remained tied, tied at 21.
Errors in ball circulation were punished without mercy by SJO (21-23, min. 20), which began to mark the path of the match.
With the arrival of the last minutes, the Tías team began to miss the missed penalties, a total of five in the match. Sonia González made her debut in the goal of her childhood. Both benches gave minutes to the less usual players, and the Tías team suffered defeat in the first official match of the season against a rival that will cross paths, on two more occasions, in the Women's Division of Honor Gold of the aurinegras. That will be another story. This weekend has been an unbeatable touchstone for Juanmi Pérez's team.
