The last day of the year in Arrecife became a day to remember in the capital of the island. The 10th edition of the popular race "San Silvestre, City of Arrecife, 2022" managed to have a record number of registered and participating, all wrapped in a festive and sporting atmosphere, leaving the bar very high for future editions.
The mayoress of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, gave the starting order, accompanied by the municipal councillor for Sports, Rosmen Quevedo.
“It has been a very exciting event, in which adults and children enjoyed the last day of the year practicing sport in a very fun and familiar way,” says the mayoress, Astrid Pérez.
The event began, after a previous musical warm-up in the Parque Islas Canarias, with the two-year-old runners, the first of the six categories of the youngest. They gave their all and more on the red carpet that they had to travel, causing a flood of photos from the fences where parents and spectators applauded their efforts with relish.
Shortly after 6:00 p.m., with a batucada soundtrack, the race for adults started with small variations compared to previous editions. In this last race of the year on the island of Lanzarote, you could see all kinds of athletes, from professionals, with a concentrated face from minute zero, to people who decided to say goodbye to the year practicing sports. In addition, many of them did it with some kind of disguise, to give more light, if possible, to the San Silvestre of Arrecife.
In the women's category, the Dutch Marissa Damink won first place on the podium. Her compatriot Sanne Wolters-Verstegen took second place, while the British Emma Stevens climbed to the third step. The first Spaniard was María Yisel González, who finished in fourth position.
The men's podium was completed by Adrián Hernández in first place (15'44), followed by the Colombian Andrés Eduardo Díaz (Chamodíaz Training) and Antonio Jesús Aguilar (Club de Atletismo Guadalhorce Álora).
The Councillor for Sports, Rosmen Quevedo, presented the medals to the first classified at the end of the event and congratulated them for their good marks in this San Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife 2022.
