Aritx Aranburu and Amaury Lavernhe were proclaimed champions of the Quemao Class 2020, presented by Billabong and considered the best in its history, with a town of La Santa and Lanzarote that went out of their way with the competitors who came from all over the world and with waves that will be remembered for many years.
The level of the athletes increased this Tuesday heat after heat and, although there were moments of tension, above all there was a "historic spectacle" according to the organizers.
Regarding the surf category, fourth place went to the Basque Natxo González, while the Frenchman Adrien Toyon took third place and the Irishman Gearoid Mcdaid came in second place.
The surprise came with Aritz Aranburu's 10 points, which made the difference with his class and dominance when going down in one of the waves, which gave him the victory in this fifth edition of the Quemao Class.
"It has been two incredible days where the waves have been the protagonists and for me one of the most special championships I have been able to compete in my career", declared the surfer emotionally, who also left words of gratitude to the organization.
"It seems very easy when the waves are perfect, but I know and I am aware that there is a lot of work behind all this," said Aritz Aranburu. "It is a championship that is enjoyed, because in the water we encourage each other, tube after tube and the warmth of the public makes it very special," added the surfer.
Bodyboard category
In the bodyboard category, fourth place went to Pierre Louis Costes (France), while third place went to Alex Uranga (Basque Country) and second to the only Canary Islander in the final, Aitor Ojeda. The champion of the category was the Frenchman Amaury Lavernhe.

Lavernhe is not new to the Quemao, as he is the champion of the mythical wave of La Santa for the third time. For him, it has been an exceptional championship, not only for the triumph, but also for sharing the same waves and the warmth of the people with the surfers, "For me it is one of the best waves I have competed in," declared the Frenchman, who thanked "mother nature" that the waiting time was worth it. Amaury stated that he feels a lot of affection for the town of Tinajo and shares friendships for many years in Lanzarote.
