Álvaro González wins the Novice Skippers regatta with the Playa Blanca

At the close of the Latin sail barquillos season in Lanzarote, Álvaro González stood out at the helm of Playa Blanca to achieve victory in the Novice Skippers Trophy, organized by the Insular Federation of Latin Sail Barquillos of Lanzarote.

The competition was attended by eleven boats crewed by skippers who had not yet debuted in official competitions. The event, held in waters near Marina Colón, attracted both barquillos enthusiasts and family members of the participants who were skippering for the first time in these traditional Lanzarote boats.

The day began with a first race on a short course, designed by the Regatta Committee for participants to adapt to the situation. In this first race, the Archipiélago Chinijo Graciplus barquillos, skippered by Daniel Perera, took the victory, followed by Álvaro González's Playa Blanca in second position and Juan Pérez's Haría in third.

Expectation grew in the second race, with a more extensive course and two laps proposed by the Regatta Committee. Four barquillos quickly stood out from the rest of the fleet. Although the Archipiélago Chinijo Graciplus seemed to have everything under control, it was the Romerito Líneas Romero of the very young graciosera Naomi Guadalupe who crossed the finish line in first place, closely followed by Playa Blanca. The third position of Abián Domínguez's Furia led the Archipiélago Chinijo Graciplus to be fourth and lose the lead in the overall standings.

The final classification confirmed the outstanding and consistent performance of Álvaro González and his Playa Blanca, who took first place, followed by Daniel Perera's Archipiélago Chinijo Graciplus and Naomi Guadalupe's Romerito Líneas Romero in third place.

The day concluded with the awards ceremony, followed by a celebration that included a chocolate party and a paella, thus marking the official closing of the 2023 season of the Lanzarote Latin sail barquillos.
