This Saturday was the long-awaited day with the acclaimed Famara Total and its modalities of 50, 25, 15, 7.5km, as well as hiking, from which Albi Cedrés (3:47:12) and Raquel Rivero (5:29:29) emerged as great winners, in the male and female categories, respectively, of the queen modality of 50km.
This was the golden finishing touch to a sports day that started on August 24 and left great performances already with the Famara Total Vertical By European Sports Destination, on Thursday, and the Chinija Race on Friday, exceeding all expectations.
It was at 7:00 a.m. this Saturday when the mayor of Teguise, Oliva Duque, gave the last impulse to the runners with words of encouragement and thus the competition started for the 50 and 25km routes in which Sergio Machín (4:03:19) and Jonay Medina (4:23:54) completed the men's podium of 50km, with Pilar Sosa (5:32:00) and Rocío Andrada (6:27:04) in the women's.
This was the culmination of an unbeatable route with areas as characteristic and unique as Las Laderas until entering the town of Teguise and entering the Guanapay Mountain, with the historic Castle of Santa Bárbara as a witness to this spectacular circuit through the volcanic orography of Lanzarote that led them to cross the Barranco de Manguía in the area of Los Valles, whose ranking came with the Mirador de la Ermita de las Nieves to return to the town of Famara passing through areas as emblematic as the Bosquecillo, the Barranco de la Elvira and the Mirador del Barranco de Famara.
With the also demanding 25km circuit, a large part of these steep sections were also enjoyed, which also reached the temperate and kilometer-long Famara beach, from where the runners could enjoy even more the company of all those fans who harangued the participants in the last stretch of the race. In this modality, Alejandro Díaz was the winner with a time of 2:03:55, followed by Andrés Santana (2:12:58), who had also climbed to the podium as the winner in the Famara Total Vertical By European Sports Destination, and Rubén Rodríguez (2:19:06). In the women's category, the podium was for Aurora López (2:54:51), Jessica Murillo (3:01:33) and Ana Cabrera (3:05:01), respectively.
The gold of 15km went to Guillermo Andrés Aguilera after stopping the clock at 01:22:51, and to Cristina Rosendo in the women's classification after achieving a great time of 01:50:14. While, at the top of the podium of the 7.5km race, were Hugo Pérez (00:33:11), in male, and Cristina Capitán (00:37:52), in female.
These were accompanied by Ramón José Roger (01:23:19) and Aitor Navarro Hita (01:27:00); and María Cristina Díaz (01:56:36) and Davinia Navarro (02:01:08), in male and female of 15km. In addition to Rayco Hernández (00:33:35) and Nauzet García (00:33:52); and Carmen Delia Luz (00:40:25) and Ana Isabel de León (00:45:39), in male and female of 7.5km.
The great atmosphere increased even more with the awards ceremony attended by the Minister of Sports of the Cabildo, Juan Monzón; the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque; and the Councilor for Sports of Teguise, Alejandro Ramírez. With a great musical performance on the Famara pier, the eighth edition of the event closed.
