The second edition of the Playa Blanca Triathlon was held last weekend. This is one of the three scoring events in the Open La Caja de Canarias. The absolute victory was obtained by Mustapha Akoudad in his return to competition after several months in dry dock due to injuries.
In front of a crowd that packed the beach, nearly 140 participants from all the clubs in the Canary Islands took the start. It was a short triathlon, with 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers on the bike through the Salinas landscapes and 5 final kilometers of running through the streets of Playa Blanca.
In the women's category, Patricia Díaz (CNA Alameda), Spanish sub-23 champion last year, took the victory after marking a great partial in the swimming event. She was accompanied on the podium by Elsa Werth, also from C.N.Alameda, and Aroa Merino, the first classified from Lanzarote.
The men's category was the scene of the reappearance of Mustapha Akoudad, who after a year diminished by injuries returned to elite competition. His victory, endorsed above all by the good partial of the foot race, meant for the Club Triatlón Playa Grande the return of one of its figures in the best possible way. Akoudad entered ahead of Nicholas Ward, from Tridente Tinajo, and Jariel Naranjo, a young promise from the Trican Club of Las Palmas.
The Gran Premio Club Joven de La Caja de Canarias for the best partial of the race was awarded to the absolute winners Patricia Diaz and Mustafa Akouad. This event was sponsored by La Caja de Canarias, the Yaiza City Council and the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
