Almost 40 years of history of a club that "belongs to everyone", as expressed in the manifesto read in support of the Unión Deportiva Lanzarote, where they appealed to the "important role that the team has played in the tourist promotion of our island", calling on the institutions for a subsidy that allows them to continue. After the manifesto, a heated and prolonged applause has preceded the statements in support of some prominent fans, former players and journalists who have appeared before the microphone.
The president of the César Manrique Foundation, José Juan Ramirez, emphasized the "responsibility" of being present at the event. "If Lanzarote disappears, part of the history also disappears," said Santi Torres, one of the players. "We all have to push this cart," said Jesús Lasso, a journalist from Radio Lanzarote, while other colleagues also appealed to the importance of sports for youth. Messages mixed with nostalgia, as some of the most mature members emotionally recounted the moment of the club's foundation.
Support banners could also be read in English, because a group of friends and family from the United Kingdom, who have been living on the island for four years, held the petition "Save our club".
There seem to be few alternatives for their salvation, but their followers still have hope. "Let's see if with a little luck...?" said one of them, "politicians have a way to get this forward. We cannot let it die," said the president of the Management Board, who appeals to the institutions to find a feasible solution. Likewise, Elvira explained that they had received requests from members to open a bank account number to collect private donations, although the Board had preferred to wait until the last day to "better mature the idea".
