Alone and not caring about the fate of those who arrive in search of an opportunity, nor of those of us who try to help them as best as our possibilities allow, and oversaturated by the situation.
On the left, more concerned with staging the irresponsibility of the right than with solving the problem, ignoring the immediate solution. Responding to those 6,000 souls abandoned to their fate could be as simple as preparing a coffee at the next council of ministers meeting. The Canary Islands minister forgets the land of which he was president until recently and to which he offered or sought no solutions, neither as president nor as minister.
On the right, although not surprisingly to some, they have asserted the political weight of their leaders, nullifying the silent and desperate cry of the Canary Islands' popular vote. Feigning a false responsibility in the distribution of an insignificant handful of opportunities that made some of us believe that we had been wrong for a few days.
Left and right have forgotten this land and its people, they have forgotten the minors welcomed in Arrecife, in Lanzarote, and the almost 6,000 in all of the Canary Islands. Left and right have preferred that the Canary Islands continue to be the prison of the hopes of those who want to reach Europe.
Left and right, in the different governments of the Spanish State, have denied the Canary Islands waters the possibility of having a system that protects human lives. Left and right, the state parties of one side and the other are more concerned with their confrontation and their electoral battle than with the more than 6,000 deaths that both have hanging on their backs. In 2023, the Canary Islands route claimed the lives of 6,007 people, of whom 384 were children.
Left and right, regardless of the political color or the name of the president in office, the Canary Islands have always been the great forgotten in migratory issues. They have taken immediate and forceful actions in Ceuta and Melilla or in electoral debates, defining the Mediterranean route as the only problematic migrant route in the Spanish State. We Canarians are alone, neither left nor right understand our situation. They do not understand that the Canary Islands are a limited and divided territory, which cannot house more than 6,000 young people due to the physical capacity of our territory and the social capacity of our services. They forget that they are generating an even more complicated future. Those 6,000 minors will at some point reach the age of majority and reach an irregular legal situation that will prevent them from developing as people, forcing them to make a living and subsist in the best way they can.
Left and right are generating a social problem in our land due to a cultural clash, by not implementing adequate measures. They are generating a problem of saturation of services, a problem of collapse and tension for the people who arrive in a boat, risking their lives. Left and right forget about the Canary Islands, about the Canarians and about the lives of more than 6,000 minors who, as of today, barely survive in a land without the capacity or resources to care for them. But they don't care about any of this. Left and right throw things at each other: Mr. Feijóo at Mr. Sánchez, Mr. Sánchez at Mr. Feijóo, and VOX at Junts. Meanwhile, 6,000 minors continue to be crammed into under-equipped spaces in the island territory, in conditions far from what human rights determine for the care of a minor. Left and right have left the Canarians alone, but above all, they have left alone those minors whom they despise, even though they talk a lot about thinking about their future and their future.
Left and right should know that they will not silence us and that the Canarians will once again win the battle against their neglect and abandonment, against their irresponsibility with this land and its people. It is not a problem of racism or xenophobia, but of capacity. Those 6,000 minors collapse our educational system, which has no capacity, and will end up collapsing our health system. From here, those of us who do know the problem are not going to allow them to play with the education and health of the Canarians.
Listen to our voice, listen to our cry and our demand. We are not going to allow them to turn us into the Lampedusa of the Atlantic while you make statistical and electoral calculations thinking about future general elections and not about the future of those people and this land.
Mr. Sánchez, we are the ones, your neighbors from the La Mareta residence, who are demanding immediate solutions from you. Use the large rooms of your summer residence to summon Mr. Feijóo here and see what happens a little beyond the heliport and the tennis courts. Understand what is happening behind those walls and look towards that sea from which you have wonderful views in your summer residence. Do it while having a coffee and, with responsibility, do it in the council of ministers as a matter of urgency and agree on it in Congress afterwards. Do not allow that in one of those waves that you see from La Mareta, more dead people arrive at that almost private beach that you enjoy when you visit than have already arrived before your indifference and abandonment.
