In recent years, we have observed with considerable unease how the Canary Islands, Lanzarote, and especially the municipality of Arrecife have been regressing in many aspects, from the most basic issues such as healthcare, education, and housing to even sports and culture.
This reality reinforces my belief that the change in the Government of the Canary Islands, the change in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, and the change in the Arrecife City Council has a name, and that name is the Partido Popular (People's Party).
I hear noise instead of proposals, and one only needs to walk through our neighborhoods, through the center of Arrecife, to see, unfortunately, the state of abandonment, neglect, and carelessness in which Coalición Canaria (Canarian Coalition) and the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) have left our city after these four years of legislature.
Arrecife is desolate, it's a 'want to but can't,' with neighborhoods eaten away, looking like a war zone.
I have no qualms in saying it. We are the only hope for our neighbors, we are the last breath of hope left for our citizens of Arrecife; we are the only political option. And I say this because when we governed in Arrecife, for barely two years, we laid the foundations for the orderly growth and advancement of our city.
These are not just words, but facts supported by reality. We cannot ignore or forget that companies like Mercadona and the La Marina Sports and Commercial Port, which have generated so many jobs in the city, were two actions promoted and unblocked by the Partido Popular when it governed in Arrecife.
We were able to generate hope by helping to create employment for our citizens and, above all, we contributed to creating economy and consumption for our city.
Since then, Arrecife has not evolved, and currently we are the only ones capable and willing to offer citizens a serious and realistic city project because, above all, the people of the Partido Popular offer to work.
But I also want to make a call for governability. Therefore, I ask for a majority vote for the Partido Popular; I ask the citizens of Arrecife to trust my team, which is ready and trained to transform our city.
We are aware that we need a significant majority to move Arrecife forward, to have a municipal government where the general interest of our neighbors prevails and not the partisan interests of the usual suspects.
Arrecife, the city in the Canary Islands where the most taxes are paid, must stop being an impoverished and underdeveloped city, and this reality is due to those who have led the municipality for the last 20 years.
The current situation is complicated, I know, but it requires a firm commitment, a secure management, that sets future challenges. And only we can provide that.
In short, Arrecife cannot afford to fall back into instability, nor into the hands of people who have proven that they are incapable of solving the problems of the people of Arrecife.
It is time to take the leap. The leap to progress, the leap to the defense of the city's values, the leap for our economy to start to take off. We want to renew the trust of the citizens of Arrecife and we will not give up. Because Arrecife has a whole future ahead and change will be possible with the Partido Popular.
Astrid Pérez, Candidate of the Partido Popular for the Arrecife City Council
