Agents of the Local Police of Arrecife intercepted a rental vehicle that had not been returned and arrested its driver. After receiving the complaint from the affected company, the agents managed to locate the car, a passenger car, last Friday, March 20.
Around 11:00 AM, agents of the Operational Citizen Attention Group (GOAC) of the Local Police of Arrecife located the vehicle while it was circulating on the Vía Medular, at the height of the Pancho Lasso art school, confirming that it was still listed as stolen.
After locating the vehicle, they identified the driver, a 33-year-old man, who was arrested for a crime of misappropriation and subsequently brought before the court.
The council has reported that the improper appropriation of vehicles is generating "significant damages" to car rental companies. At the same time, it has emphasized that the collaboration between the Security Forces and Bodies is allowing the rapid resolution of this type of crime, considerably reducing response times.
From the Local Police of Arrecife they have reminded that this type of acts is typified in the Penal Code, which punishes misappropriation with prison sentences of six months to three years and in addition to entailing the corresponding civil liability for the damages caused.
