The badly planted seed

September 18 2015 (15:54 WEST)

Yesterday, while reading a post from the Vicente Ferrer Foundation, I realized that in all communities, from villages, towns, and cities, there is a focus on the foundation that will be their future: children and youth.

The seeds of education, culture, and sports are planted because a town with well-educated young people with good values is a town that will grow and be strong.

This commitment is made in all cultures and societies, except in the municipality of Arrecife.

We have seen how our children and young people have been forgotten by the CC-PSOE Government Group before, and now with the support of the PIL.

We have a large group of children, students of the La Destila school, who are waiting for those new classrooms that were promised to them, but still do not have a construction start date; and while they wait in temporary classrooms, those of us who have come to see them have found that it is not the most suitable environment for them to grow academically and socially.

There are playgrounds that do not comply with European regulations; the ground is made of rofe or jable, which is a breeding ground for infections since animals leave their excrement there. The furniture is broken, and our children have nowhere to spend their energy; they are also dirty and full of graffiti that is not appropriate for innocent eyes.

Parents who seek culture despair. The children's library was closed for months, you would arrive and only find a note indicating where to return the books, but not a place with an environment conducive to reading.

Cultural activities focused on the little ones are also missed; Storytelling, children's theaters, play centers... We can only enjoy some activity because it comes from private promoters.

Grassroots sports only exist to hand out medals and take photos. Apart from not convening the subsidy grants to sports schools in time, the state of the fields and courts is in a deplorable state, representing a physical risk for our young athletes.

And the older ones, our young people who want to join the labor market, find no support from those who have been managing the Arrecife city council. Employment policies and support for young entrepreneurs do not exist.

CC and PSOE have dedicated themselves to doing nothing in these years for the little people who will be the future; the seed in Arrecife is poorly planted and will not germinate as it should.

All those who dedicate themselves to the honorable profession of politics should stop to think and see that dedicating resources focused on our children and young people being able to enjoy their municipality and that their municipality can enjoy them; is a great investment in the future.
