Indeed, as pointed out by a disappeared group of island pop, the name is the least of it. What does it matter if they are Miss Gay, Miss Transformist, Mr. Beauty or Miss Transvestite. I confess that even I myself was wary of the type of show I would find. Because we are like that, it is part of our human condition, sometimes we make anticipated judgments and assume that this or that may happen, but I was wrong and as it pointed out, it doesn't matter what name we want to give the event. The truth is that the contest held last Friday in Arrecife pleasantly surprised me.
Good for the work of the presenter, Roberto Herrera, who acted free of charge as master of ceremonies, good for the assembly and organization of the City Council's Festival team, good for the direction led by Willy Díaz, good and better for the wit, sympathy, education and joy of the participants who made the event up to par, which did not disappoint the audience. An audience that also packed the Charco de San Ginés area and as the show progressed understood its philosophy.
However, among so many people there were notable and significant absences. For example, that of the mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera. Why didn't the mayor accompany the Councilor for Festivities, Eduardo Lasso? Perhaps, because the first mayor of Arrecife preferred another show to entertain himself on Friday night. Cándido chose a private offer, in which he of course collaborated, and which took place at the same time and on the same day that a group of young people from the capital were striving to win the title and crown of Miss Gay Lanzarote.
And it is that the mayor of Arrecife, a lover like no other of photos and headlines, seems to be more concerned with leading and making profitable the areas managed by his political group (PP), than with encouraging and defending the proposals that emanate from the City Council itself, with lower economic costs and open to the entertainment of the
citizens in general, without prior payment of any entrance fee.
Knowing the performance that was being prepared in El Charco, Cándido Reguera ensured that, with the help of a private company, his City Council's Festival parallel to the official one, would look good in the photo. Because the mayor likes to portray himself with celebrities (Berto, Alejandro Saénz, Jacinto or Chona?) and seems to forget that the real protagonists are the residents and not the private groups with whom he closes millionaire contracts to animate the areas of the PP.
Xayo, icon and reference of transformism and humor closed the show. And the final applause of the attendees still resonates.
