As I usually write opinion articles periodically, I subsequently receive comments on these writings. All logical in a democratic society. For this reason, I am going to answer a comment that was made to me the other day about my article: "Symbols that unite us" and the double discourse, according to the editor, that we use in Coalición Canaria on immigration.
First of all, in the face of this phenomenon of immigration there are no magic solutions or governments or political parties with the unique truth. It is a complex issue and the results will be seen in the long term. But from COALICIÓN CANARIA we understand, and it is my personal opinion as well, that forceful and short-term measures are necessary to stop this human drama of deaths, illegal mafias and unscrupulous businessmen enriching themselves at the expense of the need of immigrants. Therefore, it is necessary, firstly, to control, by the Spanish State, the illegal entry of non-EU foreigners through airport traffic and pateras, as well as the illegal entry of workers, in the Community area, demanding compliance with the Schengen Borders Code, which is producing population imbalances in the Canary Islands and the saturation of educational, health and social centers. It is essential to specifically set quotas for REGULAR AND LEGAL IMMIGRATION, reinforcing the institutional representation OFFICES of the State in the countries of origin and creating new ones of the Government of the Canary Islands. This would put an end to the illegal mafias and immigrants would choose to come legally with a contract under their arm. For this, it is necessary to demand from the Central Government the control and, if necessary, the verification of the REPATRIATION of those immigrants who are in the Archipelago in an irregular situation. And this is not repression but simply encouraging those who come legally, with a contract, because that labor is needed, so that they produce to the country, support their own and progress. Because, sometimes, the one who is illegal also ends up carrying out illegal activities that we all know: drug sales, prostitution, robberies, etc.
On the other hand, in the meantime, it is crucial to implement necessary measures to guarantee the physical integrity, human dignity and rights of all irregular immigrants, immediately increasing HUMAN AND MATERIAL RESOURCES in terms of health, security and emergencies in the municipalities affected by immigration. What is not acceptable is that the resources are only provided by the Government of the Canary Islands, the island councils or the Canary Islands town councils. From COALICIÓN CANARIA we demand the involvement and solidarity of the Spanish State and the European Union.
Secondly, to promote DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION agreements with Africa and America, creating a more favorable climate to collaborate in the reduction of illegal immigration. But observing the neglect of the Central Government in issues such as the Maritime Line with Tarfaya, COALICIÓN CANARIA demands its own FOREIGN POLICY assuming those competences with an impact on our geographical and cultural environment, in matters of foreign trade, foreign health and development cooperation, allowed within the framework of our STATUTE OF AUTONOMY.
JUAN ANTONIO DE LA HOZ GONZÁLEZ, MUNICIPAL SPOKESPERSON OF COALICIÓN CANARIA, IN SAN BARTOLOMÉ DE LANZAROTE.
