The thinker J.G. Heder said that "Politics creates States, nature creates nations...". Spain is a State and the Canary Islands a NATION. Yes, in capital letters and without complexes, we are already of age. Globalization and the process of building the European Union have caused nationalisms to be reinforced as the only democratic political alternative capable of building a fairer, freer, more supportive and sustainable world. Faced with the Europe of capital and the States, we defend the EUROPE OF THE PEOPLES as the only way to build a Europe for people and for respect for the diverse national identities that make up the European unit.
The Canary Islands is a nation, whether some like it or not, because that is how its people feel. Faced with the attempts of the Spanish State, for 6 centuries, to deny and erase our national identity, we nationalists must be very open-eyed to the pseudo-modernist postulates of false universality and globalization.
Spain does not exist as a natural feeling. There is the Canarian, Catalan, Basque, Galician, Andalusian, Castilian, etc. identity as natural identities. Spain is a plurinational State, an artificial state made by politics. Some statist parties (PSOE-PP) throw their hands up in their heads when we say the above. Why? Because these parties are in constant struggle with the nations that exist in Spain, because they do not respect the diverse national identities of these peoples and from their central authority they carry out great abuses of power against them and their national aspirations: General Budgets, Reform of the Statute of Autonomy,...
Spain is an objective political organization, with its institutions and its territorial limits. It does not coincide with an entire nation nor is it constituted by a single national group. There are several nations in Spain. Let some not be frightened, open their minds and think. Get rid of the complexes and fears of other past times. Most Western States are plurinational. Even the European Union recognizes our singularities. Why doesn't Spain?
It is urgent that it recognizes its plurinational character through a reform of the Constitution. Yes, as you hear it. We respect the Constitution, we are nationalists within the Spanish State. After thirty years, nothing happens by changing for the better. From COALICIÓN CANARIA we will defend our CANARIAN NATIONAL IDENTITY wherever it is. We will defend the recognition by the State of its plurinational character and we will not cease to fight until we achieve it. Because we believe that we must move towards a reform that transforms the State into a FEDERAL MODEL where it is an instrument at the service of the interests of the territories and not the other way around as it currently occurs. WE SAY IT WITH OUR FOREHEAD HIGH, IN CAPITAL LETTERS AND WITHOUT COMPLEXES.
